How to Find and Monitor Keywords on LinkedIn

Keelyn Hart
Content Writer at Letterdrop

TL;DR:

  • Use LinkedIn search to find and monitor keywords relevant to your business
  • Upgrade to LinkedIn Premium to set up alerts for new mentions of your keywords
  • Automate keyword monitoring with Letterdrop for real-time notifications that are filtered down to your ICP automatically
  • Engage thoughtfully by providing insights and solutions, not just promoting your product

Why Find and Monitor Keywords on LinkedIn?

Your prospective buyers are on LinkedIn discussing topics relevant to your business.

Knowing what these topics help you engage with prospects, generate leads, stay updated on industry trends, and gain insights into competitors and your ICP.

More specifically, you want to be able to find and monitor these keywords so that you can:

  • Stay competitive by tracking competitor mentions and entering relevant conversations to position yourself as a better alternative
  • Know brand mentions to understand how your brand is perceived and discussed, which allows you to enter the conversation, too
  • Be privy to industry conversations to gain insights into what your ICP cares about and position yourself as a thought leader
  • Get more eyeballs on your content by engaging in trending discussions
  • Look for specific keywords around your topics to fine-tune your marketing and sales strategies
  • Identify potential partnerships by monitoring discussions and identifying key players in your industry

How to Find and Monitor Keywords Using LinkedIn Search

The simplest way to monitor keywords on LinkedIn is through the platform's built-in search functionality:

  1. Use the Search Bar: Enter the keyword or phrase you want to track in the LinkedIn search bar. You can use quotation marks to search for exact phrases.
  2. Filter Results: Use LinkedIn’s advanced search filters to narrow down results by people, posts, companies, groups, and more. You want to make sure you're viewing the most recent posts (the 24-hour filter is useful here.)

To stay updated on new mentions of your keywords, you'll need to have LinkedIn Premium:

  1. Run a Search: Perform a search with your desired keyword.
  2. Save the Search: Click on the "Save search" button at the top of the results page.
  3. Set Up Alerts: Choose the frequency of email alerts for new search results (daily, weekly, etc.).

How to Automate Keyword Monitoring

It's super tedious to find and track keywords manually, and you can't really filter down to your ICP on LinkedIn.

Until now, there was no software to properly help you automate this.

We have a new feature at Letterdrop that completely automates finding and monitoring keywords relevant to your business.

  • You can set keywords to track
  • You can set filters for your ICP
  • You get Slack notifications whenever those keywords are mentioned by ICPs

Some other LinkedIn social listening tools to look into are:

1. Brand24

Brand24 compiles LinkedIn mentions and sorts them by importance.

It also offers sentiment analysis and competitive tracking for actionable insights.

2. KWatch.io

KWatch tracks keywords in both public and private LinkedIn posts.

It's able to provide email alerts, Slack notifications, and sentiment analysis.

3. Devi AI

Devi automates keyword monitoring across LinkedIn and other social platforms.

4. Mentionlytics

This claims to help you track and analyze "reputation" and performance on LinkedIn and other platforms.

5. SentiOne

SentiOne provides brand mention tracking specifically.‎

You Need to Engage Thoughtfully

When you engage with posts mentioning your keywords, you don't want to come across as salesy. You need to build some credibility first.

We have a BDR's guide to social selling and building that credibility to warm opportunities, but the TL;DR is:

  • Be Helpful: Provide insights or solutions rather than just promoting your product. Share resources in your posts for free, thoughtfully engage in the comments, and more for about a week before you think about making an ask
  • Be Genuine: Authentic interactions are more likely to build trust and lead to meaningful connections.
