Opting for ChatGPT as your AI-powered content marketing assistant may be easy on the pockets, but it comes at a heavy price: quality.

Compromised content quality can tank your customers' faith in you as a brand — which in turn, tanks your conversions and your revenue.

No marketing team can afford to be in this position today, especially in a difficult market and the recent spike in layoffs.

You need to understand what exactly you're in for if you opt for a cheaper (or even free) AI model like ChatGPT, versus a full-fledged content and distribution model like Letterdrop.

Research and Topical Coverage

Manual research for a blog can take from 2-6 hours on average, according to a 2019 study. It makes sense to start employing AI to do the heavy lifting here.

To rank on Google, you need to:

  • Cover what's already out there today
  • Find new angles to cover in order to stand out and add something new to the table

Can AI do that?

ChatGPT

You have to opt for the pro version of ChatGPT to access real-time browsing data to begin with — the free version is limited to information from April 2023.

When given instructions, the paid version of ChatGPT can give you a breakdown of existing topics on the SERPs today as well as suggestions for new angles to cover.

Be that as it may, there are limitations:

  • You will have to remember to feed ChatGPT information on your offerings, industry, and other firmographics for it to make more relevant suggestions
  • You may have to attempt multiple prompts to get the level of detail that you want — the above output is still generic. This takes time
  • You cannot rely on ChatGPT to give you totally unique information to rank higher, as it cannot think for itself or generate proprietary expertise for you to use
  • With the paid version, you only get to send 40 messages in a three-hour window, limiting your capacity to research if you need to send multiple prompts

You can also templatize blog instructions for future use, but once again, this can be time consuming, and there's no guarantee that your prompts will get the level of detail that you're looking for.

Letterdrop

You can opt for a "research dump" of top-page information in Letterdrop by just feeding it your keyword. Unlike ChatGPT, you can pick and choose the pages you want your research to come from.

And without any prompting, it natively analyzes and tells you:

  • Search intent
  • Funnel and buyer stage
  • The dominant format on the SERPs
  • Conversion likelihood based on pre-determined context on your business

If you prefer more bite-sized information from top pages, you can generate individual, original suggestions from the "What Should You Cover? → What's Already Covered?" feature.

This same functionality applies to "People Also Ask" and "Featured Snippet" sections, enabling you to hyperfocus on ranking for them.

Much like ChatGPT pro, you can trigger gap analysis and get prompts for new angles and information to rank higher. It also enables you to give more context on what kind of information or angle you're looking for for more specific answers.

Generating Content

AI has become a staple in content creation.

  • 43% of marketers use AI for ideation
  • 29% for writing headlines
  • 28% for first drafts
  • 3% for complete drafts
  • 22% for making edits

But can it be trusted?

There's a very real danger that your blog turns out generic, inaccurate, and completely absent of truly unique insights.

You cannot give this to your customers without editing on your part — it's important to keep this in mind.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is capable of doing all of the above and giving you a limited skeleton of a blog post or even social post to work from.

It's important to remember that ChatGPT is fed context on the internet alone, and is incapable of discerning between a highly credible source of information versus random, baseless internet drivel.

This can negatively affect the language and structure of content.

You may need to participate in a time-consuming back-and-forth with the chatbot to build and fix content until you get the output you really want, which takes up valuable time.

For example, it took three separate prompts for me to get a LinkedIn post from an article on our blog, and it's still not exactly what I want — the language remains generic.

Letterdrop

You can get an instant first draft from Letterdrop based on its analysis of top pages for your keyword — and since you get to pick and choose the pages you want the AI to analyze, your margin of error for content generation is far lower.

You can also provide unique instructions on how you want to structure your draft. This includes:

  • setting up internal links
  • specifying target audience
  • specifying the product features you want to reference

As for creating social posts, Letterdrop has specific dashboards dedicated to multiple social media platforms — you can add theme or account-specific templates from which the AI can work from, as well as URLs for context.‎

Letterdrop Can Safely Automate Social Amplification on LinkedIn

Social selling, also known as employee advocacy, is fast becoming a primary pipeline driver for B2B companies. (Think Lavender, Refine Labs, and Letterdrop.)

Through LinkedIn APIs, Letterdrop can automate engagement from any LinkedIn account connected to Letterdrop, including likes and comments. This perfectly adheres to LinkedIn policies.

It's a one-click approach that:

  • Helped Warmly build an influencer network that averages 10k impressions per post
  • Helped Celigo triple engagement on company posts
  • Helps drive 60% of organic pipeline here at Letterdrop

ChatGPT is completely incapable of doing this for you.

Unique Expertise for Higher Rankings

AI alone cannot generate unique expertise. It needs to be fed proprietary data for that.

But it should be helping access and automate that expertise.

ChatGPT cannot do this.

Letterdrop

Asking subject matter experts (SMEs) targeted questions is an excellent source of high-value, proprietary insights that you can use across your channels.

But sometimes, they don't have time for a full interview.

With Letterdrop's AI, you can request a SME quote directly from the editor. They'll get an email with your request, which integrates with Loom to automatically record their answer.

It also auto-adds captions, a relevant logo, and metadata for you to tweak. It then auto-publishes to YouTube and to your blog post.

SEO

ChatGPT

There are specific ChatGPT prompts for SEO that you can use to take very high-level SEO responsibilities off your hands — for example:

  • Extracting keywords from given articles
  • Clustering those keywords
  • Generating metadata and titles
  • Identifying search intent and categorizing keywords accordingly
  • Identifying buyer journey stage
  • Expanding on talking points, changing wording, and providing synonyms
  • Identifying how to target a writing framework (for example, PASO)
  • Summarizing top articles on the SERP to help with topical coverage, as mentioned above
  • Editing and correcting articles

However, ChatGPT is unable to:

  • access your site, which means no internal linking, page speed insights, or content refresh monitoring
  • access real-time keyword data, such as volume or CPC
  • do any deep-level technical SEO fixes

Content Attribution Tracking

It's becoming more important for content and marketing teams to be able to measure content attribution and tie efforts to revenue.

You should be able to rely on AI to pull this data for you.

As it stands, ChatGPT is incapable of accurate content attribution reporting, even if you were bothered to feed it data.

You'd have to resort to other tools to do this more efficiently.

Letterdrop

We have a full-fledged guide on revenue attribution in Letterdrop.

The TL;DR is, Letterdrop has:

  1. A Revenue Dashboard: Offers a real-time overview of how your content impacts your pipeline, eliminating the need for manual spreadsheet analysis.
  2. A Per Page Breakdown of Revenue: Delivers detailed insights into each piece of content's performance, aiding content strategists in maximizing ROI without relying on traditional keyword research.
  3. Traffic and Pipeline Influence Analysis: Categorizes content into sourced, accelerated, and influenced buckets to optimize distribution and enhance conversion rates.
  4. Content Consumption Insights: Tracks individual account engagement and sales call summaries, enabling personalized content strategies and empowering sales.
